A must do short hike in Ella. This is fairly easy and very popular among tourists! So expect to meet many other people from all over the world on this trip!
Little Adams Peak Ella or Punchi Siripadhe as it is livingly known is amongst those little mountains that anyone can easily conquer. Located in the picturesque touristy town of Ella, it takes approximately 208 kms to reach if travelling from Colombo. It is also one of those little peaks that has become ever-so popular amongst trekkers and hikers who look for a bit of fun, exploring and getting a bout of fitness added into their morning routines.
Travellers specifically have known to enjoy climbing Little Adam’s Peak due to its breathtaking scenery that never ceases to amaze anyone who ends up at the top. Hikers can get a feel of walking upwards and sometimes the odd cow or two joins in from somewhere, where it would have been left near the greenery to graze.
As the peak is found in the Badulla District, the area itself is home to beautiful waterfalls, serene views, cool weathers and simply lush fields and valleys scattered in the distance. An early morning hike, which is not only refreshing but also ideal considering how a timely ascent would call for amazing views, is recommended.
One resort in particular, the famous 98 Acres Resort and Spa holds access to a beaten track that leads towards the foot of the little mountain and eventually get you going to the peak. To get to the resort, it takes about 2 kms from the Ella Junction. The resort itself is inviting and is built within a tea estate, hence the name. The family owned resort has also been denoted as one of the best resorts in Ella.
An early morning climb would call for warm clothes as the higher you hike, the chillier it gets and the more you get to see misty covered mountain peaks beyond. However, once the sun starts shining, you might decide to get rid of that extra sweater or jacket. Little Adam’s Peak doesn’t have people who reside atop it and is usually either frequented by farmers with their livestock or tourists who come up for some sightseeing and pictures.
For those who want to check out other surrounding areas after descending from the peak, hikers can also visit Ravana’s Cave or Ravana Guhawa which is located less than 3 kms away from the Ella Junction. Ravana’s Cave holds a series of man-made tunnels where it has been named after King Ravana and was said to have been designed and occupied by him. The trail that leads up to the cave is also one to be experienced.
